DR. SAJJAD HAMDANI AWARD OF EXCELLENCE

King Edward Medical College Alumni Association of North America (KEMCAANA) proudly introduces a new scholarship for the students or fresh graduates of KEMU on Alma Mater’s sesquicentennial anniversary. This will be initially awarded to one best graduate annually based on multi-criteria evaluation including academic excellence and interview process amongst other factors.

Mr. Jamal Hamdani has created this Award, son of Dr. Sajjad Ahmed Hamdani, to honor his late father. Dr. Sajjad Hamdani was born in 1926 and graduated from KE in 1953.  He was a fellow of Royal College of Tropical Medicine.  He worked for various health departments in Pakistan and then moved to Nigeria, where he practiced from 1962 to 1984. He passed away in Karachi in 1984.

Mr. Jamal Hamdani is the President of Moseley and its subsidiaries.  Prior to acquiring Moseley in 1992, he held various management positions with General Research Corporation, the BBC and Philips Research Laboratories.

Purpose and amount of the Award

The recipient of Dr. Sajjad Hamdani Award of Excellence will receive a grant of US $7,000 to facilitate the travel for clinical skill testing and interviewing process for the residency programs in the US. The intent of the scholarship is to assist excellent and less well affording students/graduates.

Who Qualifies?

This is an award for a final year medical student or a fresh graduate of KEMU who has passed the final exam within past 12 months and who has been amongst the top ten students of his/her class. Scores of greater than 90th percentile in USMLE I are required for this award.

Eligible candidates can apply for this scholarship online at KEMCAANA website or by written application (downloadable from the website) submitted to KEMCAANA Office in Patiala block detailing the following information. An application form is also available from the same office.

  • Application must be received by December 20, 2011.

  • KEMCAANA Committee for this award will short list most eligible candidates.

  • Interview will be granted to the 5 best candidates.
