As I write this message as your new President, I reflect with a sense of pride on the past accomplishments of KEMCAANA, yet look forward with excitement and renewed vigor to what the future holds and the many opportunities available to promote the growth of KEMU and Mayo Hospital. The day is truly for us to seize!
Standing on the shoulders of giants, it is incumbent upon us to continue the mission of our predecessors to reach out, give back and change lives. Changing lives, as mine was as a fourth year KEMU medical student volunteering at the KEMCAANA winter meeting, when I witnessed first hand the selfless philanthropy and work of the KEMCAANA members. I am privileged to serve as president of KEMCAANA and thank you for the trust you have bestowed in me. I commit to continuing KEMCAANA’s mission by focusing this year on the transfer of medical knowledge through in person and virtual collaboration. On my recent visit to KEMU I met VC Dr Faisal Masud, faculty and students, the faculty reinforced its commitment to our shared vision through bilateral knowledge sharing and research collaboration.
I truly have large shoes to fill. The provision of free wireless networking at KEMU has revolutionized learning on campus. Students previously bound by technology have been empowered by the same technology to tap into new and innovative sources of learning. A paradigm has shifted and the barriers to learning have been lifted such that a KEMU student in Pakistan can access real time on line lectures provided by a KEMCOLIAN in the Dominican Republic.
All our projects are true to our mission of education, reasearch and service. These projects range from providing over 90 undergraduate and post graduate Scholarships, to running a residential facility in Philadelphia for medical graduates and students during their pursuit of a Residency in the United States, young investigator award , visiting faculty seminars, medicine provision to deserving patients at Mayo Hospital to supporting post-graduate medical trainees at Mayo Hospital. I am proud that through each project the KEMCOLIAN spirit of reaching out, giving back and changing lives persists.
To our trailblazing predecessors, I thank you for setting a foundation and to all our members, I invite you to join a committee and represent your Alma Mater with pride. We have several committee and leadership positions open and I encourage you to join. Reach out to your local counselors, directly to me or other Executive Committee members. The commitment of your time is little but the pride lasts a lifetime, so join and seize the day - reach out, give back and change lives.
